HANOVER, NJ — What looked like a comfortable victory turned into a nail-biter on Saturday, as Hanover's 8U soccer squad survived a late West Orange rally to escape with a thrilling 3-2 win.

Hanover came out firing.

Ryan Critchley opened the scoring in the first half, giving Hanover a 1-0 advantage heading into the break. The defense held strong behind him, keeping West Orange off the scoreboard.

THE PLAY THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

With Hanover protecting a one-goal lead, Guerriero picked West Orange's pocket, broke free, and finished the play himself to double the advantage. One steal. One breakaway. One goal.

And the moment was caught on video — watch it right here in this story.

Harrison Westfield followed with a goal of his own, stretching the lead to 3-0. For a moment, it looked like Hanover might cruise home.

A COMEBACK THAT ALMOST WAS

West Orange had other plans.

Down three goals, West Orange battled back with two unanswered scores, turning a comfortable Hanover lead into a 3-2 thriller with the game hanging in the balance.

Hanover needed its defense to deliver. And deliver it did.

Ethan Konchalaski, Ryan Konchalaski and Harrison Westfield shared goalkeeping duties, making the saves Hanover needed while their teammates fought for every ball to protect the narrow lead.

When the final whistle sounded, Hanover had survived — 3-2, and a win this group will remember.
