The Lakers are champions again. Mountain Lakes won the Small School team title at the NJAC cross country championships on Tuesday — the program's first conference crown since 2020.

And they had the perfect leader for the day. Violet Page won the individual race outright, taking gold and setting the tone for everything behind her. When the first runner across the line wears your colors, championships tend to follow — and the Lakers' pack made sure of it, closing out the team title to complete a golden afternoon at Greystone.

Six years between titles makes this one sweeter. Mountain Lakes has a proud cross country tradition, and Tuesday put the Lakers right back on top of the NJAC small-school field: the team championship and the individual champion, all in the same race. Days do not get much better than that.

The Lakers' title headlined a championship day for Morris County at the NJAC meet, where Montville's girls and Mendham's boys won the large-school crowns and Kinnelon's boys defended their small-school title. Page's individual gold made it a clean sweep of the top prizes in the girls small-school race.

Stars of the Game: Violet Page, the Double Champion — an individual gold medalist and a team champion on the same day. And the Lakers pack, the Title Team, back on top of the NJAC.
