MOUNT OLIVE, NJ — By the third set Friday night, the Morris County Tournament final had turned into a showcase — and the player running it was a sophomore. Olivia Drucks hit, set and dug Mount Olive to a sweep of the defending champions, took home the tournament's Most Valuable Player award, and earned the first gold honor in this paper's young history: All-Sport Athlete of the Week.

THE FINAL, BY THE NUMBERS

Drucks finished the championship match with 24 kills, 13 assists and 10 digs — a line that touched every phase of the game. Mount Olive beat Randolph 25-13, 25-11 and 25-17, and the Marauders' sophomore outside hitter was the best player in the gym from the first serve to the last point.

NINE YEARS IN THE MAKING

The title was Mount Olive's first county crown since the program's back-to-back championships in 2016 and 2017 — and it came against the team wearing the crown. Randolph arrived as the defending champion and did not surrender it cheaply, pushing the third set to 25-17, the closest of the night. Every time the match tightened, Drucks was in the middle of the answer.

FAR FROM A SOLO ACT

Drucks had plenty of help, and this honor is happier for it. Junior Izabella Osoria turned in a monster night of her own — 11 kills, 18 assists, three aces and 15 digs — and Ava Diaz anchored the back row with 15 digs. Earlier in the week, the Marauders had turned back Parsippany Hills 3-1 in the semifinal to reach the final.

WHY ALL-SPORT

Every sport in this paper names its own Athlete of the Week — cross country's belongs to Kinnelon's Kieran Fitzgerald, who won two NJAC titles in one afternoon. The All-Sport honor sits above them all: one athlete, any sport, the best week in the area. A sophomore owning a county final — the kills, the assists, the digs, the MVP — is what that honor was invented for.

The crown is back in Mount Olive for the first time in nine years, and its MVP is still only a sophomore. The rest of the county has been warned.
