Mendham is back on the throne. The boys won the Large School team championship at the NJAC cross country championships on Tuesday — their first conference title since 2023.
The individual race belonged to West Morris Central's Andrew Ulto, who won in a swift 16:08.38. But cross country championships are not won by one runner — they are won by packs, and Mendham's pack was the best in the large-school field when it mattered most. Five scoring runners, one shared mission, and a three-year wait for another title ended with a trophy.
That is the beauty of this championship: Mendham did not need the individual winner. They needed each other — depth over headlines, place over place — and they delivered the most complete team performance in their division on the biggest day of the conference season.
The title capped a big day at Greystone for Morris County programs: Montville's girls won their first large-school crown in program history, Mountain Lakes' girls took the small-school title behind individual champion Violet Page, and Kinnelon's boys, led by individual winner Kieran Fitzgerald in 16:36.34, defended their small-school championship.
Stars of the Game: the Mendham pack — the Kings of the Course — team champions through depth, grit, and running for each other.
